NWF 1st's win in dramatic final

On Sunday 11th August, The Nic Willoughby Fund hosted their first 6-a-side cricket tournament. 8 teams competed over the course of the day at Chearsley Cricket Club with the winners set to become the inaugural champions of what is expected to become an annual tournament.

The days events kicked off with the presentation and unveiling of Chearsley Cricket Clubs new scoreboard. The teams previous board had been vandalised and was in need of a replacement. With the Grant awarded from the Nic Willoughby Fund in partnership with the Heart of Bucks the new scoreboard has been installed and is now in use.

The Tournament then kicked off with the first game between the two teams from The Nic Willoughby fund, followed by clashes between Bledlow Village CC, Chearsley CC, Chester old boys, Miscellaneous CC, MCS Gents, and Knotty Green.

After a full days cricket, it came down to NWF 1st’s and Bledlow Cricket Club in the tense final. After the 5 overs each both teams were level taking the game into a Super Over. NWF 1st’s were first to the crease and scored respectably, but Bledlow were going to fight to the end.

With one ball left and Bledlow only needing 2 runs to win, Will Anthem held his nerve and hit the wickets giving the NWF 1st’s the win.

The Nic Willoughby Fund would like to thank all the teams who took part, as well as the supporters throughout the day, and to anyone who donated. A special thanks goes to Chearsley Cricket Club for hosting the event.
